1. What are the living arrangements at Collegedale Academy?
Collegedale Academy is a day school; therefore, students are to live with their parents or in
a family environment of friends/relatives in the community with legal documentation for
guardianship. CA students living with only a college-aged sibling is highly discouraged and
requires administrative action.
2. Can my student live in Southern Adventist University’s dorms?
No, SAU dormitories are reserved for SAU students only

4. What classes may home schooled students take at CA?
Home schooled students are allowed to take PE classes and music classes as space permits.
Music classes require auditions and uniforms. Home school students must wear CA uniforms to
classes. Prorated tuition fees and insurance fees will apply.
5. How do home school credits transfer to CA?
If you have home schooled through an accredited home school, then your grades/credits will
transfer and compute in your gpa. If you have not been with an accredited agency, you may
only receive pass/fail credit with no gpa computations for those credits.
6. Where do I get uniforms?
Collegedale Academy uniforms are available at Educational Outfitters, 2273 Gunbarrel Rd

A resale shop operates during the annual August registration hours.
7. May I take private lessons for fine arts credits?
CA students may take private lessons for fine art credit toward graduation. A student must take
fourteen lessons per semester for .25 fine art credit (1.0 credit is required for graduation). A
form is available from the registrar for this program. Private lesson teachers must be approved
before lessons begin. Grades are only pass/fail and do not compute in a student’s gpa. Credit is
assigned in December and May only.
8. What if I can’t come to registration?
• Turn in all forms, signed by guardian and student
• Pay all registration fees
• Class schedules, locker assignments, and chapel seat assignments are not available
before registration
• Pick up class schedule, etc. the first day of school
• Textbooks are assigned and distributed in each class
9. What sports does Collegedale Academy offer?
Collegedale Academy participates in TSSAA for golf, cross country and tennis. CA also runs
intramural sports that vary by season after school two days a week. All CA students are
required to take four semesters of PE for graduation.
Collegedale Adventist Youth in Action (CAYA), sponsored by the Collegedale Church of SDA, is
responsible for basketball, volleyball, and soccer leagues. Contact Tom Pyke, CAYA Athletics

10. What music courses are available at Collegedale Academy?
CA offers many music opportunities all require auditions and performance uniforms:
• Chorale—general choir for both genders
• La Vie—ladies chorus for those advanced beyond Chorale
• Opus—select choir of both genders, traveling group, time commitments outside of
school hours
• Band—concert band, one major tour per year, local concerts
• Orchestra—one major tour per year, local concerts
• Music Worship Leadership—a class for students to develop worship leadership skills for
use in churches and youth groups
11. How can my student find work?
Jobs are limited on campus to “readers/graders” for teachers. Teachers choose their own
workers. Students under 14 are not allowed to work. 14-15 year olds may only work after
school hours. 16 year olds may work during a study hall, if the teacher allows.
Wingfield Cleaning hires CA students for janitorial work after school at CA. A resume must be
sent to Mr. Cooper, principal, and he will forward to the company.
12. What types of financial assistance exist?

13. Does Collegedale Academy offer scholarships?
• C.A. Academy Day Academic Award
A $300 Incentive Award will be given one eighth-grade student from each elementary
school represented at Academy Day. The student must be recommended by the
teacher(s) of the school, and the award will be applied to the student’s account upon
registration at C.A. the next school year.
• Conference Programs
Collegedale Academy participates with denominational organizations in granting
academic scholarships up to 40% of summer earnings up to $500 for camp and literature
evangelist work.

Collegedale Academy is able to offer dual enrollment courses through Southern
Adventist University at a reduced SAU tuition rate.
14. Where do I purchase textbooks?
CA charges a textbook rental fee each year and books are assigned to each student per class. If a
book is lost or damaged, replacement fees will apply. Dual enrollment course textbooks are not
included in the rental fee. Books for dual enrollment courses should be purchased through the
Campus Shop in Fleming Plaza in Collegedale.
15. Does my student need to take placement tests before registration?
All new ninth grade students need to take an algebra placement test before registration,
preferably during the summer. No other tests are required unless the student is a foreign
exchange student. (Local SDA elementary schools are given this test in late spring of their eighth
grade year.)
16. Do you offer an ESL Program?
Collegedale Academy does not have an ESL program. Foreign exchange students or those issued
I-20’s must demonstrate English proficiency in order to be accepted to Collegedale Academy.
